About

About

Sam Huffman

I’m a higher education social media strategist with a decade of experience managing social media and more than four years focused on higher education communications.

At East Carolina University, my work spans flagship social strategy, enrollment marketing, executive communications and digital governance. I use audience insights, emerging trends and performance data to create timely, relevant content with a clear strategic purpose.

A major part of my approach is “show, don’t tell” — bringing a university’s story to life through real people, experiences, traditions, research and campus moments. I specialize in short-form video, social-first graphic design, photography and cohesive visual storytelling, combining strong aesthetics, platform-native thinking and brand consistency to create content designed to stop the scroll. That approach has helped drive record audience growth, tens of millions of views and award-winning work in social media, innovation and storytelling.

I also believe strong social strategy extends beyond one account. I’ve built collaborative relationships with top research institutions including the University of Michigan, University of Miami, Penn State, Northeastern University, and Fordham University to create cross-university content and strengthen higher education social media as a whole.

Beyond content, I help shape institutional social media strategy through AI guidance, creator programs, governance and crisis communication.

My core approach: understand the audience, find the story, show why it matters and act quickly to meet the moment.
